Donald M. Reiff, 78, Kent, Minn., died Saturday, Jan. 30, 2010, at St. Francis Healthcare Campus, Breckenridge, Minn.

The funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 3 at St. Thomas Catholic Church, Kent.

Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 2 with a 7 p.m. prayer vigil at Willow Creek Chapel (920 3rd Ave. N.) Wahpeton, and one hour before the service at the church on Wednesday.

Burial will be at St. Thomas Catholic Cemetery, Kent, with military honors provided by Wahpeton VFW Post No. 4324 and Minnesota Military Honor Guard..

Arrangements are with Vertin-Munson Funeral Home, Wahpeton.

Don was born May 14, 1931, at Fargo, N.D., the son of Charles J. and Bertha A. (Lotzer) Reiff. He grew up in Kent and attended grade school at Kent. He graduated from Breckenridge High School in 1949. Don entered the U.S. Army in February of 1952, and he served in Korea. He returned to Kent after the service, in 1954, where he worked at his family’s business, Kent Oil. On Oct. 16, 1958, he was united in marriage to Alice Ficenec at St. Arnold’s Catholic Church, Milnor, N.D. The couple lived and raised their five children in Kent; Don along with his brother, owned and operated Kent Oil for many years. For more than 40 years he was very dedicated to their customers, retiring in 1998. He continued to live in Kent.

Don was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church and enjoyed fishing, hunting, bowling and coin collecting. He took great enjoyment in following his children and grandchildren in their activities.

Don is survived by: his wife Alice, Kent; his five children, Deb Krump, Abercrombie, N.D., Jeff (Bev) Reiff, Wahpeton, Tim Reiff, Wahpeton, Dennis Reiff, Grand Rapids, Minn., and Mitch Reiff, Kent; 12 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; his brother, Chuck (Renee) Reiff, Kent; his sisters, Lillian “Dicki” (Leonard) Haman, Bismarck, N.D., and Mary Elaine Sellner, Sleepy Eye, Minn.; and several nieces and nephews.

Don was preceded in death by: his parents; his brother, Tom; and two infant sisters.
